Interpreting receptor research

Why findings depend on assay conditions and models

Observed binding and signalling can vary with receptor expression, cell system, species, concentration range, exposure time, assay format and measured endpoint. Results should therefore remain attached to the model and conditions that produced them.

Why shared receptor-family activity does not make compounds interchangeable

Two compounds can interact with members of the same receptor family while differing in sequence, conformation, selectivity and functional response. Each remains a separate research material requiring its own identity, documentation and experimental interpretation.
